DJW Roofing & Leadwork Ltd repairs and replaces porch, lean-to and garage roofs in Ely, Littleport and across Cambridgeshire, in tile, EPDM rubber or torch-on felt, with leadwork where the roof meets the wall. Danny has 15 years’ experience and treats small roofs properly, because a badly finished porch or garage roof can let water into the main house. Free inspections and quotes as standard.
Porch roof repair for pitched and tiled porches
Tiled porch roofs suffer the same problems as larger roofs: slipped or cracked tiles, worn felt, loose ridge tiles and failed flashing against the wall. Because porches sit right by the front door, a leak is quickly noticed. We repair or replace tiles to match the main roof where possible, renew felt and battens if needed, and make sure the flashing where the porch meets the house is properly dressed and fixed. If the porch roof is beyond repair, we can strip and recover it with a new porch roof.
Lean-to and extension roofs
Lean-to roofs and single-storey extension roofs are often built at shallow pitches, which makes the detailing important. Tiles need to suit the pitch, and the junction with the main wall has to be weathered correctly. We check whether the existing covering is suitable and recommend repair, re-covering in tile, or a flat-roof system where the pitch is too low for tiles to perform well. The aim is a roof that sheds water properly for years, not one that needs patching every winter.
Garage roof replacement in EPDM or torch-on felt
Many garages in Ely, Soham and the surrounding villages have old felt roofs that have blistered, cracked or started to pond. Garage roof replacement usually means stripping the old covering, checking the deck and fitting a new system. We install both EPDM rubber and torch-on felt, the same systems we use on our flat roofing work, with properly finished edges, trims and upstands. We will explain the options for your garage and help you choose the one that suits it best.
Lead flashing where the roof meets the wall
The most common leak on a porch or garage roof is not the covering itself but the junction with the house wall. Mastic and sealant strips break down quickly, while correctly dressed lead flashing, chased into the brickwork, lasts far longer. As leadwork specialists, we fit step and cover flashings properly, so water running down the wall is directed onto the roof and off into the gutter rather than behind the covering.
Rotten decking and timbers
If a flat garage or porch roof has leaked for a long time, the timber deck underneath is often soft or rotten. Laying a new covering over a failing deck is a waste of money, so we check the boards and joists first. Where needed we replace the decking with new boards before the new covering goes on, giving a solid, even base that the membrane can be properly bonded to.

Porch & garage roofs
FAQs.
Is EPDM or torch-on felt better for a garage roof?
Both work well when installed properly. EPDM is a single-sheet rubber membrane, while torch-on felt is built up in layers. We will explain which suits your garage and why.
Can you repair my porch roof rather than replace it?
Often, yes. Slipped tiles and failed flashing are usually repairable. If the felt and battens have failed, recovering the porch may be the better long-term option.
Why does my porch leak where it meets the house?
This junction is the most common leak point. Sealant breaks down over time, so we replace it with correctly dressed lead flashing chased into the brickwork.
Do you replace rotten garage roof decking?
Yes. We check the deck before re-covering and replace soft or rotten boards so the new roof has a sound base.
