Roof leak repair starts with finding the cause
Water rarely comes in exactly where the stain appears. It can run along battens, felt and timbers before showing on a ceiling some distance from the actual fault. That is why we inspect the coverings, junctions and details around the area rather than replacing a few tiles above the damp patch and hoping. Once we know where the water is getting in, we explain what we found, show you photos and recommend the repair the roof actually needs.
Common sources of roof leaks
Most leaks we find come from a handful of places. Slipped or cracked tiles and slates let rain straight onto the felt. Lead flashings around chimneys and walls can split, lift or come out of their mortar joints. Valleys collect a lot of water and wear over time. Ridge and hip tiles can loosen as old mortar fails, and flat-roof joints or upstands can open up. Our roof repairs work covers all of these, along with specialist leadwork where it is needed.
Storm damage roof repair and wind damage
Strong winds across the Fens can lift tiles, strip ridge mortar, loosen verges and dislodge lead. After a storm you may see tiles in the garden, gaps on the roof or debris in the gutters. We assess the whole roof, not just the obvious gap, because wind often loosens neighbouring tiles and fixings too. We then replace and secure what was damaged, and where an old mortared ridge or verge has failed, we can explain whether a dry fix system is a better long-term answer.
Temporary make-safe versus a permanent repair
When a roof is open to the weather, the first priority is stopping more water getting in. A temporary make-safe might mean refixing loose tiles, covering an opening or securing lead so nothing else blows off. That protects the house, but it is not the finished repair. Once conditions allow, we come back to carry out the proper work with matching materials and correct detailing, so the roof is watertight for the long run rather than relying on a quick fix.
What to do while you wait
Do not go up a ladder or onto the roof in wind or rain. Inside, move belongings away from the drip, put down a bucket and towels, and if water is near light fittings, switch off that circuit at the consumer unit. Take photos of the damage inside and any you can safely see from the ground. Keep fallen tiles if you can, as they help with matching. Then call Danny on 07862 885143 and describe what you can see.

Storm damage & roof leaks
FAQs.
Will my home insurance cover storm damage?
That depends on your policy, so it is best to check with your insurer directly. We can share photos of the damage taken during our inspection, which you can pass on if your insurer asks for them.
How is this different from an emergency call-out?
An emergency call-out is about making the roof safe quickly when it is urgent. This service is about finding the cause of a leak or storm damage and repairing it properly. Often one leads to the other.
Can you find a leak that others could not?
We take time to inspect the coverings, flashings, valleys and ridges around the problem area rather than guessing from the stain, which gives the best chance of fixing it first time.
Should I go up and look myself?
No. Wet or windy roofs are dangerous. Stay on the ground, take photos of what you can see safely and give us a call.
